Consolidating the Forums
« on: November 16, 2010, 01:37:30 AM »

There are a few things I think this forum would benefit from (updated theme, new version of SMF or a new forum framework altogether, shared usernames with other social networks, more activity from members, etc.). I do plan to help with some of these things as I can once my work, family and local organizing schedule slow down enough, but one thing I think would be a fairly easy change which would help is to consolidate the current forums in some way.

Consolidating the forums would make it so that the low level of activity we do have would be easier managed and the content being added would be easier found. Aside from those reasons, many times the topics being posted would be just as relevant if they were posted in some other sub forum. I especially don't like the categories of beginner's theory and advanced theory, but for that matter the idea that we have a theory sub forum at all.

Let me know what you think.

I suppose we can try to keep this in mind, but I don't think it is the highest priority right now given that this board is virtually dead these days.  We have been too busy to attempt to revive things.

Given the situation I agree. I think a better answer to these problems will be a different possibly newer type of forum... one that plugs in to already existing social networks and Internet IDs. I certainly hope the selection made towards this will not be one based on Facebook since that would also be limiting, possibly identi.ca and/or OpenID would be a better route.
