Spam problem
« on: October 08, 2010, 06:35:15 AM »

Just to let everyone know, we're having trouble with spammers on the forum as well as a host of phony members. I've attempted to install some more tests in the registration process but so far it's failed. If anyone has any experience they would like to share, please do.

We could just hope that they have managed to improve the situation with SMF 2 but I suspect we won't know until it's up and running on this site, which will not be until the final release. At that point we'll likely have to find some way to get rid of phony members. Until then, our apologies for the spam around.

I have noticed this, some of these ads are pretty bad. I believe we have even had some child pornography ads in the past. I can't do any tech stuff, but if you ever need another moderator to delete trash threads and the like just let me know.

I have still seen a few spammers here and there (I have banned them and deleted some posts), but they don't seem to be coming in at the previous rate (at least so far).  Hopefully this stuff will come to an end, especially considering that Christopher Hill is absolutely correct in that spammers have shown up and posted child pornography ads.
