If we are going to show the manifesto, why not Capital?
Or other revolutionary writings, Berkman, Guevara, etc.

Das Kapital was a complete explination of how capitalism operates and its many faults and contradictions. I don't think many Marxists will ever read all 3 volumes, you don't really need to anymore, you can find all the main points explained simply in study guides like this one on Marxist economics

What is it about? Ok. Well Marx analyses capitalist mode of production in detail there and the main contradictions. A very good book if you have time to read it.

I tried reading it once. But, I hate reading books over the internet (particularly this book because it's so full of information) so I'm going to have to go to the library. I hope it's available now!

i dont think youll find it in the library. the manifesto is considered a banned book and well ya i wouldnt expect to find much communist or anarchist literture in a library.
Did Marx finish all 3 volumes? i though he finished the first one and tthen kicked the bucket or did Engles help finish it?

Well I think that's mostly in the USA. In my liberary I have found lots of communist litterature, including Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, John Reed etc, and if they don't have it on display you can order it. But i know it's more hard to find it in "the land of the free". Comradely

Hello A.Skeez, perhaps a suggestion before you try to tackle Capital: try reading Engels' "Wage Labour and Capital", see http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1847/wage-labour/ This is a very good overview of what capitalism is all about. Table of Contents: ----------------- Introduction Preliminary What are wages? By what is the price of a commodity determined? By what are wages determined? The nature and growth of capital Relation of wage-labor to capital The general law that determines the rise and fall of wages and profit The interests of capital and wage-labor are diametrically opposed Effect of capitalist competition on the capitalist class, middle class and working class ___________________ At the Marxists Internet Archive there's also a study guide . Hope this helps Cheers

I have read most of Vol1 of Capital, and its a book that needs perseverence over the first few hundred pages or so.It is a scientific study and not just an expose of capitalism and Im gonna wish I hadnt said this , should be read in conjunction with his smaller works, but equally important, Wage Labour and Capital, Wages ,Price and Profit etc, etc. Lenin and Trotsky have both written substantial essays on economics using Capital as a reference and can be used as a guide, because they tend to summarise alot of what Marx said. I must be perfectly honest with the comrades, economics is not my strong point so my journeys into Capital have been slow and patient. BTW way ,I havent got vol 3!!!! But I do have "Grundrisse". Ian

The manifesto is banned? How come it hasn't been taken to the Supreme Court?
As for Das Kapital, I find that reading a few of the abridged versions (around 300-400 pages average) help, becuase the editors edit out the outdated or repetitive stuff.
