I have heard it said many times that Fidel Castro sent Che GUevara to his death in Bolivia is this true? It can't possibly be because they were best friends and Fidel loved Che like a big brother being two years older, Che was reckless and sometimes didn't listen to what Fidel said I also read this because it was in his nature to put himself at risk that is why Fidel ordered Che to stop putting himself at the front lines because he was too important to lose

Many believe that rather than setting him up, Fidel had sent him to Bolivia to keep him out of his hair, so he would not cause Fidel any diplomatic troubles due to his strong ideals.

I believe I read about this, I believe that Jorge Castaņeda author of Compaņero: Vida y Muerto del Che Guevara attributed this to Che's desire to start revolutionary action in his home country of Argentina as soon as possible, while Fidel wished to stop this,I distinctly remember reading that Castaņeda theorized the reason that Fidel sent Che to Bolivia was very likely because he believed it would keep him away from Argentina (Keeping him both alive and out of his hair for the time being) so that he could be useful at a later time, while not hurting Fidel's relations with the USSR, While I do not believe that Fidel and Che had had a falling out, I do believe that Che was causing diplomatic problems for Fidel, so Fidel had to arrange for Che to be away for a while. A good biography of Che which goes in to the subject - ( http://www.amazon.com/Compa%C3%B1ero-vida-muerte-del-Guevara/dp/0679781617)

I am not sure, Fidel was always a pragmatist..and I think in the end he never really wanted to go beyond getting power...so he is likely caught in between love for his friend and relief that Che will not topple him for being in some ways a dictator.

I haven't found anything that gives this argument any kind of basis. The failure in Bolivia, wasn't about Fidel "setting him up" but rather some incorrect policies. Che based a lot on the peasantry and guerrilla tactics. He wanted to gain support in the cities through the Communist Party, which was headed by Monje at the time. Che broke on several issues with the Soviets, so the Communist party ended up abandoning him. Once the support in the cities was lost Che had no chance, and the peasants were for the most part were not supportive. So really it was false tactics that caused the death of Che, Fidel didn't send him to the butcher.

Yes, and in many ways sending Che to Bolivia was meant to keep Che from getting himself killed or from pissing off powerful people as he may have if he went through with his plan in Argentina..but of course..it happened anyway.

Che didn't plan to stay at cuba anyway .. so i don't think that fidel sent him to his death .. i think it was the USSR .

Whoever was it, we can't help him now. I don't understand why people, for example, wear the t-shirts with Che Guevara and Fidel Castro without knowing anything about them. It's also funny how Cuba keeps Bolshevism stronger than ever right in front of the USA.
