How many of you active are in non-political organizations? I'm thinking of things like religious groups, video game clans/guilds, athletic or sports groups, neighborhood associations, humanitarian organizations or any other type of social group. I'm mainly interested in the type of organizations rather than specifics (but list the groups if you wish), and while many types of groups cover the subject of politics in some way I don't count them as political groups unless it is their primary focus. So in other words gun ownership groups, while many times do focus on politics, are not considered primarily political groups.
I am currently part of my neighborhood/community organization. It isn't a home owner's association where you have to pay dues and keep a certain type of roofing on your house... that would be annoying. This organization is basically focused on communicating relevant information to people in this neighborhood. I've also been involved with various video game clans/guilds in the past depending on what game I was into, but I haven't played many video games recently and definitely nothing that would make me look for a guild/clan.
This type of thing interests me because I think social groups of whatever type serve the purpose of providing a sense of connection with society. It seems like more and more the Internet has taken the place of the more traditional form of face-to-face communication, but I think it is an important thing to be involved in some type of social group even if most of your communication is done via the Internet.

I am involved in sport organizations.
But it is sad to see how money and not skill dominates amateur sport. It is not the talented who tour the world and win competitions, it is those who can afford (or whose parents can afford). In professional sport the players get their living from the game itself, which sets the poor and rich on more equal ground what comes to opportunities of a successful sport career.

I was formerly in the BSA (Boy Scouts of America) but I couldn't stand the bigotry and idiocy of most of the members and the leadership regarding practically every matter of society, religion, and science, or the fact that the accountant kept embezzling money, so I left.
