Well I spelled out most of my thoughts on the matter in this thread

I agree mostly with Marx's observations however I do not believe the destruction of religion to be necessary, indeed it can be a force for good if it does not cloud people's judgement.

nationalism thinks proud loyalty and devotion to a nation but nationalize is better becuse the business is to state ownership  for equity and fairness rather than market principles.

Coming from the USA with the overwhelming majority being Christians I think this is an important discussion, considering most Christians are confused when it comes to the matter. One thing we need to point out is that Christianity does have a revolutionary history. The early Christians were pretty communistic (in consumption, not production), and quotes like Jesus said in the bible "it's easier for a needle to pass through the eye of a camel, then it is for a rich man to get to heaven" are still really revolutionary. You have Christian socialists and the Liberation Theology, which I think we could easily work together with.

Being a materialist I don't believe in god, and I think religion has historically been used as a tool of the ruling class. You can also look at the movements to have creationism thought in school and telling kids that the world was created 4,000 years ago. Mine as well start burning witches at the stake, because that's where those ideas belong in history!

I believe that GOD IS ONE.
so I bow my head infront of every church as well as every mosque and temple too.
because i believe that the teachings of every religion lead to nirvana.
it is just like walking on different roads to get to one destination.

I think Catholicism, the most popular religion, was only stolen from Judaism, and that's why Catholics were trying to destroy Jews - they thought Judaism needs full transformation in which Catholics will take the power.

yeah.. religion should be separated from government.

on the other hand, religion frightens people to be a good citizen in the community. it permits people to follow the good stuff and to be righteous.
