"Rotation Communism": Well meaning, but misguided?
« on: August 23, 2009, 09:50:41 PM »

While surfing the net, I found a page detailing the personal socialist ideology of a certain Comrade Peadarisback. In my opinion, this is a well-meaning and well thought-out attempt to revive socialism, albeit a theoretically flawed one. To me, this doctrine seems to answer a couple of questions about the problem of Stalinism and how to handle counterrevolutionaries, but in turn lays the groundwork for market/state socialism, and a petty-bourgeois mindset. Do you think we should invite Comrade Peadarisback for a chat? Maybe put him on the straight-and-narrow? What do you all think?

Here is a link to the "manifesto" (I know, I wasn't expecting to find anything of that calibre on Deviantart ;))

Doesn't look like anyone has cared to post on this yet, although loads have seen it. I would REALLY appreciate feedback on this.

Electing a dictator is not a good idea, even if we elect a "rotating dictator" or something. It is better to use modern technology to let people vote directly for every major issue in politics. The elected leaders should be there to do what the people decide, not to do whatever they want.

2. Economics: I don't like the mixed market idea, where private businesses are left functioning independently. Private entrepreneurship in Socialism should mean that you present your business plan, the state approves it, and then you work with your business plan getting the same salary as everyone else. No risk to lose money if your business does not succeed well, and no chance to get rich if your business succeeds well.

2.1 Collectivization: All lands should belong to the state, no private or hereditary ownership of lands or real estate. The state can give you lands and real estate as you need for living or work, and takes it back when you don't need it anymore, or when you die.

2.2 Education: "School unifroms" are unnecessary homogenization of people's appearance. If somebody likes a uniform, OK let him wear one.

2.3 Domestic policy: Politicians should get same payment as everyone else, not less.

3.1 foreign policy: There is no sense in giving "development aid" to Capitalist countries (other than urgent humanitarian aid), even if they are poor Third World countries. Socialism is not nationalism: if Ireland were Socialist and some country in Africa were Socialist, then these two would become politically one nation, with one economy and one standard of living for all. Nationalistic separation from people who want to join us is against the values of Socialism.

3.2 Policy towards EU: the rules of EU make Socialism practically impossible, for many reasons ranging from economy to immigration policy. EU would kick a truly Socialist state out, even if it wants to stay in EU.

4. Freedom: I don't believe that "(all) religions must be freely practised". At least obvious cheating like horoscopes, prophets and faith healers should be banned.

4. 2 Gay marriage: A complex topic, I think that gay couples should not have the right to adopt or raise a child, because two people of same gender cannot biologically produce a child.

4.4: Voting age: I think the voting age should be lowered to 13.

5: Private property: A lavish luxurious lifestyle should not be allowed for anyone in Socialism.

5. 1. The Private property of criminals: Too simplified to say that "criminals" would remain in prison for the rest of their lives. Crimes vary seamlessly from small to big in severity and intentionality. Also the scale of punishments must be seamlessly scalable from zero to full lifetime.

This "rotation communism" is a strange combination of bourgeois liberal republican principles and social democratic economics. It doesn't solve the problem of political inequality inherent in the capitalist system and in fact makes it worse by further restricting the participation of the people (council elects leaders, leaders elect dictator as well as secret, if external, police force). As for the economics, they're to the right of even modern day European style Social Democrats. Not to mention it also makes the mistake of thinking it can abolish the money system right away without dissolving the state at all. This concept is largly utopian, trying to create political and economic equity while trying to cater to everyone.
