01.) Restart your computer

tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by

get a help and support window, close this.
05.) Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer

deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not
sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the
registry.

I keep getting this when I turn on my computer at the log in screan.

Validation failed for c\windows\system\vsinit.dll

You probably are missing a necessary root cerfificate.

How do I fix this? Note this is on a older computer windows 98SE.

I was going to uninstall and re-install zone-alrm .I'm using a older zone-alrm but I do not know if there is any support for windows 98SE.So if I uninstall  zone-alarm I may not be able to re-install zone-alrm .

I don't know if the file vsinit.dll is deleted or gone bad or what the problem is.Doing a internet search using google they say vsinit.dll is part of zone-alrm .

IE is 6.0 , SP1 , windows 98SE , 256 RAM ,onbord  video , Celeron CPU
Operating System: Windows 98-SE (Second Edition)
Software Version: 6.0
Product Name: ZoneAlarm (Free)

      Hmmm..?     Bad News for you..

1.) First the Bad News..

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer Monitor and see what's going on..
Windows 98/98SE/Me Support Discontinued

Dear Windows 98/98SE/Me Customer,

ZoneAlarm supports a balanced, multi-layered approach to security. An important part of this approach includes keeping software updated with the latest security patches.

Support Discontinued
On July 11, 2006, Microsoft will end support for Windows 98, 98SE and Me, which will have the resulting effect of making these operating systems less secure (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/support/endofsupport.mspx). Windows 98/Me are older operating systems, and are therefore inherently more vulnerable to attacks than newer operating systems. Now that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates to these operating systems any PC running them will become increasingly prone to security vulnerabilities.

Accordingly, ZoneAlarm will cease to support Windows 98/98SE/Me with the introduction of our version 6.5 ZoneAlarm family of products including ZoneAlarm® Internet Security Suite, ZoneAlarm® Pro, ZoneAlarm® Antivirus, ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware, and ZoneAlarm®.

Official Solution:

ZoneAlarm 6.5 or below can no longer function.

Uninstall your version of ZoneAlarm and if you have a valid genuine ZoneAlarm licnese key in good standing you will need to upgrade and download version 8.0.400.020

Note: Windows ME, 98, 98se and Windows 2000 are not supported in version 8.0

For download links Click Here.

1.) Sorry but All versions of ZoneAlarm released before ZoneAlarm Ver. 7.0 are no longer Supported.. Check the Notice posted in the Official Information Section.. Link below..
http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=Official&message.id=9

The simplest procedure is UPgrade Windows OS to Windows XP Service Pack 3:

1. Download the Latest  installer foe Win XP SP3:  (preferably with IE Browser and no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire, BitTorrent) and save it to your Hard drive.

(MultiPlatform, installer will install on Both WinXP and Vista)

ZAFree  http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/information/znalm/zaReleaseHistory.html

2. Before you Uninstall your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --> Preferences tab)
3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory

4.) Now use the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool:

Click here > http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/cpes_clean.exe

Save to desktop, right click and "run as administrator"

This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions.
(you can un-install without net connections)

5.) Now Install the new update (clean ) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..

NOTICE:

Please note that ZASS and ZAXS do not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZASS/ZAXS issues remove the other Security programs and install them back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example,Norton/Symantec, McAfee,  AVG,  Spyspweeper, Spyware Doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&D, PC tools Threat Fire,  any other Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, Registry Guard or  locking tools, etc...

--------------------------

NOTICE:

2.) Have you Update Window XP Home eddition to the Lates MicroSoft Service pack 3 update?

ZoneAlarm 7.0 for XP was designed to work with SP2,

ZoneAlarm 8.0 for XP was designed to work Best with SP3

However ZoneAlarm 8.0 will install on WinXP Sp2.. (But you may have Conflict problems)

There are numerous Security Leaks found in WinXP SP2 that were found and Fixed with SP3..

NOTICE: No Security Software run on WinXP Sp2 can protect you from the Windows Security Flaws found in Windows SP2 that were Fix with Windows SP3, until you upgrade to SP3....
