John Maclean, the great scottish marxist, suffered terrible conditions in prison (much worse than being 'buggered') during the first world war yet he did so because he knew he was right and he was standing up for his beliefs.

Thats very nice that Mr. Maclean did the honorable thing and stood up for his beliefs. But what good is a comrade in prison?

The only Marxist in prison that accomplished something off the top of my head is Antonio Gramsci. And he was only able to write and theorize, not able to take an active pyshical fight.

I am not stating that going to prison is some sort of heroic duty or some other great thing to do. I say that I will not run from the bourgoisie or fight his wars. I will make the ultimate sacrafice for socalism if it comes down to it.

As far as I remember both Trotsky and Luxemburg was able to do the same. As have others im sure. It of course depends on what the conditions in jail are.

Ya, but Gramsci was sentenced for 20 years. He only lived through 10, dying at the age of 46.
