Michael Collins
« on: March 18, 2009, 06:27:01 PM »

Anyone know much about him, an Irish leader in the War of Independence and Civil War after. I know he participated in the Easter Uprising, but did he have a relationship with Connolly? Did they get hold similar views?

Oh and! Does anyone know if the Liam Neeson movie by the same name (Michael Collins) is any good? I'm gonna check that out soon enough.

I'm no expert but I doubt Collins and Connelly shared many ideals. As far as I now Collins was a rank and file member of the Irish Volunteers. A group solely interested in obtaining freedom from the British Empire. He was also a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood(IRB) during 1916, but these too were just a nationalist movement. James Connelly and the Irish Citizens Army were the smaller of the two forces who took part in the rising so it's not really considered a socialist rising.
p.s. the film isn't great but it's definately worth a look
