As a Marxist the question of Northern Ireland is extremely important. However after having read extensively on the subject I still believe that the rightful place for the 6 counties is in the United Kingdom as it is the democratic wil of the majority (not to mention the apprehensiveness of the Southerners to subsidise the Northern Irish economy). There is a sizeable majority of people that consider themselves Unionists, both Protestant and Catholics, and their views should be respected. Where do you get this from? My recollection is that a referendum was always violently refused by the British.
