Merging the forums

What do you guys think about merging most forums together, streamlining the main page?

What forums should be merged? Which forums should remain?

Hi CyM

Cut out the least used parts of the forum or merge them with others that share relevance.

The forum would be helped if there was a little heavier handed moderation especially in the philosophy section. Debate there has died a death for very obvious and clear reasons.

Is there anyway members could be contacted and invited back to participate?

Yes there is, but I'd like to keep that till we've got the forum reorganized, with a new look, updated software and everything.

This is a good way to organize things if there is a flood of activity, and threads get buried quickly by new threads.

But if the activity level is low, this is a good way to keep us from building any momentum on the site, it scares off newcomers and splits activity into 20 different places.

Hi CyM,
I definately think this place needs steamlining.
"Computer Technology and the Internet" should be part of "Science and Technology"
"demonstrations" should be merged with "strikes and labor disputes" (and labour should be spelt properly :D) and the "get involved" forum
"Labor History" should be merged with "History"
Rosa Lichtenstein should be banned as an individual disruptive to the purpose of the forums.

What I would do is work on promoting this site , so google and yahoo search engines bring it up.Tell the other left sites about this site.

Post more on youtube/myspace to be promoting this site. There is enough posts and discussions just no one talking .

May be a new software upgrade and color will get more people.May be they look at the old software and color and think it is a old web site and move on.

There use to be lots of active members here but too many got busy with school ,work and politically active. The activity comes and goes in waves here.

Other problem is many of the working class people are not happy with the way the US is , but do not understand what is imperialism ,ruling class, working class, capitalism , communism, socialism, liberal and conservative, fascism, the worker and capitalist so on.

And are very pro revolution and for the working class and anti-imperialism , anti-police state , anti- rich , anti- ruling class so on !!! But are going to conspiracy for problems.

Like http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php

A devil controlling the world and one world government has appose to highest stage of capitalism the US is going into now.Where the conservative people like Bush is doing every thing to save the US capitalism system.Like free trade ,globalization ,wars and confits and military industrial complex so on.

When this fails there will be ww3 or fascism to stop the US system from falling apart.Because not only would they be worse than the 30's there will be riots and looting all over the US and you can see this in Miami and New Orleans after a storm , where there is food shortage and survival mode comes in.

FEMA has holding camps now and under disaster martial law can be apose and elections delayed under any war or disaster.

The US uses terroristism has a broad word and has arrested political activities and drug dealers and any thing disruptful to the state or threat to the state .Not what the US people word call terroristism that is destruction of property and death !

Ya this new look makes the web site look more active.Found 8 thread topics in one month than 2 or 3 before.

People should just bump the thread to the top if it gets to low.I still think promoting this site with other left sites about this site is a must. Also promoting this site with yahoo search engines and google..

Also a new color and software upgrade to make the site look new than old.

This new forum layout definitely looks more interesting, and should serve well to make things less confusing for new users of this forum.

This site has been inactive for a number of years, so some touching up is in order (most of us that were very active in the past are extremely busy with real world organizational work.).  Hopefully the new merging of the forum will be the first step toward rebuilding this site.

Well this is different. Looks nice. Feels kinda stretched though. As in the width of the layout. Otherwise I like the narrowed down simplicity of the forum organization, as opposed to having a large amount of topical sub categories that were hardly used.
