I am personally very conservative, and came across this site while stumbling and found it interesting. I want to let it be known I'm not here to bash, I'm here with an open mind and to debate discuss and learn at peaceful level
Welcome to the Board. We respect opposing views except for facists.
I wanted to know how after a revolution you would keep a society that would be fair for all and not end up with that of 1984. With freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Assembly, without having unwritten rules.
By the introduction of real workers democracy. An economy operated on a planned basis accountable to the people rather than the tiny minority of billionaire capitalist who are accountable to no one.You can search any document by Marx, Engels, Lenin or Trotsky and be at pains to find any suggestion of the introduction of totalitarianism. What Stalin represented is a different story and a million miles from genuine communism.I know you havent mentioned Stalin but generally that how conservatives see Communism.
How the mind will not become manipulated and controlled by whatever form of the party comes about, how will major poverty in the proletarians be prevented. How are you planning to not have a major take over and obsession with complete control, but you seem unlike that the party of 1984 who wants complete power as you may or may not know.
How is the mind not manipulated now? Most of the press and general media are dominated by the ruling class. Yes you are free to express but not on the same level as a billionaire like Murdoch who has vast financial resources at his disposal. Is that fair?
1984 is a brilliant book by a socialist author, George Orwell depicting a futuristic totalitarian society which some argue reflected what was happening in the USSR in the 1930s and 40s. You could argue it the other way. It could represent a capitalistic society in the future and since the demise of the Iron curtain/Warsaw pact in the early 90s our capitalist world it could be argued is moving closer to dictatorship. Think of the Anti Terror laws in the US and the UK and how they can and are being used.In the UK we are the most 'observed nation in the world. There are more cctv cameras per head of population than anywhere else. I know there is an equally high level in the US. Big Brotheris watching, anyone?
A real socialist society with complete workers democracy will allow freedom of thought and expression. But it wont be on the background of free enterprise capitalism which allows only one view, the view of the capitalists who control society.
You at least have some clinging to the fact that you are doing this for the greater good, which in case would not be corrupt enough, to force the changing or the mind through acts of torture. To not commit major purges to wipe those who do not like your ideals.
History is littered with examples of the capitalist class oppresing democracy for what they saw as the greater good. Look at US foreign policy in its 'war against communism' and lately its 'war against terror'. Think of Chile 1973 where a democratic elected socialist government was overthrown by a CIA backed military coup. Chile was thrown into darkness with distinct parallels to Orwells 1984.Think of the torture commited in this country? Think of the torure and abuse commited in Argentina during the 70s? What happened to the disappeared?? Good capitalist nation that was.
Stalin committed purges in the 30s which had nothing to do with the ideas of communism. His rise to power needs to be studied especialy how he eliminated workers democracy in favour of his bureaucratic caste that his power was based on.Capitalist are similarly as brutal but were clever in using the Stalin experience to completely discredit communism in th period between 1930 and 1990, especially in the Cold War years.
Will the family still be essential, or will it be decimated and sex for anything but party become sex crime, how we will not be forced into double think standards and always fearing thought crime.
Families always have been and always will be essential. Since when has the family been the bedrock of capitalist society? We currently have a society where you have divorce and seperation, physical and sexual abuse and anti social behaviour by sections of youth. This is todays Capitalist society. It is obviously anti family.
A socialist society will liberate families from povery which is the cause of the problems you see in families today. The sex crime and the thought crime bit goes back to 1984 territory. Remember it was a sci fi book.A real socialist society with genuine workers democracy over economic planning will have no need to monitor peoples sex or thought. Isnt it capitalism that brings in laws that can be considered sexual expression. Arent Born again Christian or fundamentalist muslim governments trying to control thought and sex? Both exist in capitalist society.
I hope I have given you a general view of your points raised. I will leave to other comrades to go into more detail about specifics, even though I will suggest a simple search on the site will refer to most things such as real workers democracy, revolution, economic planning, stalinism and such like.
