I wanted to mention a new group that had its first meeting tonight called the Dallas Socialist Group. For the most part, it has been organized by a group of students in Denton who are all members of the International Socialist Organization. Some of the students are graduating and moving to Dallas, and some of them showed initiative by scheduling this group, which I believe can be a very good thing for this area (where such things are lacking). While I can tell that some of the ISO members are focused on selling their organization more than building a coalition group, I think that for most issues and activities I will be able to work with them, since in all discussions up to this point we are on the same page.
This also is happening at a good time for the WIL in Dallas, since we will have another member moving to the area any day now. It will give us a good bi-weekly event to get involved with on top of a few other monthly things that I think will be useful to attend. The most important thing for us, though, is that we will be able to meet together as the starting point for a future WIL/IMT branch. This will help us become better communicators and gain a clearer understanding of what being a Marxist and member of this organization means for us, and that will form a good foundation for when future comrades join the organization from this area.
If anyone wants more information about the Dallas Socialist Group let me know and I'll dig up the details. At the moment it is a bi-weekly thing, but that as well as the current location is likely to change depending on what the people want.
