Why is the main forums category called "salvage area"? Is this intentional or a bug/hack?

Wel it looks like a back up when this group moved servers and they still fizing the bugs like anvators and pictures not coming up.
You still should be able to use
http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
for old threads.
