Yes it does mean that. I don't know what is going on in the inside, but the Democratic leadership is turning right, in fact, the media, the parties, the government itself are all moving to the right and rapidly. The dam has broken people and we're in for a sufferin'.

Well, there are a number of demagogically left Dems running for the Presidential nomination this year - it'll be interesting to see how they do - a LOT will depend on the war which is coming this week...
The WIL's US Perspectives document for 2003 will be out soon - it will have a LOT of good info on this and many other topics! ;)

Yes, there are progressive and dare I say, Semi-Socialist Democratis seeking to run for the Presidency, including Dean and Kucinich. And I seriously believe they have a chance because the power of a party extends only as far as its members support it, without the masses, the party is nothing.

I think JP nailed it on the head with this word: demagogically (if that's even a word). Although the content of their message is towards the workers, we shouldn't forget who we are dealing with. Clinton campaigned on universal health care, part of our program, but once in office quickly showed his true colors. The real character of the Democrats is shown again and again: a party created and maintained on the basis of supporting capitalism. Although there are good, honest people in the Democratic Party, they will never be able to accomplish but the most bare bones part of a socialist program, free school lunches is a lot to expect from them. This is why we must convince those (few) good people to break from the Democrats!
