The war on terror and 1984
« on: March 04, 2006, 03:36:35 PM »

i don't know if any of you have read the book 1984, but if so it would make this point a bit more clear. Has anyone relized that the war on terror will never end? I mean think about it, will there ever stop being terrorist or people who have been defined as such? Of course there won't be, and think of this the government has been using the war on terror to get away with alot of things. I mean war is in a way a great method to control the general population without exerting yourself as a dictator. It keeps people in a frenzied state of mind with fervor for wanting to defeat the enemy, and anytime things start looking down they mention 9/11 to increase anti-terrorist sentiment. Now i'm not saying by any means that terrorism is right, but this is a war that is so vague that it can be used anytime the government wants to do something out of line. A good point being the patriot act and illegal wiretaps as an assertion of government control. It gives them reason to keep gas prices up putting more money in the hands of oil corperation, it gives people reason to be afraid putting money in the hands of firearms dealers and home security buisnesses. It allows for them to focus their money on things other than supporting and uplifting the poor, because the poor are needed as the backbone of society. In a large way, if you've ever read 1984 by George Owell, its all really happening. Just one thing is that the united states relized by the failing of other totalitarian dictators that they have to be subtle about it, so thats where i believe the wars comes in really. This is something thats been bothering me for awhile, I was hoping to hear some comments from other people on it.
