2 February The Hague: demonstration: no troops to Afghanistan
« on: January 30, 2006, 02:19:50 PM »

On Thursday 2 February, there will be a demonstration in The Hague, The Netherlands.

The organizers say:
No troops to Afghanistan – No support for George W. Bush

On Thursday 2 February at 20:00, the Dutch Parliament will debate whether or not to send 1200 Dutch soldiers to the province of Uruzgan in southern Afghanistan.

The government says yes.

We will be there that night, with a demonstration outside the Parliament building to support the arguments against sending those soldiers.

- Dutch troops in Uruzgan would be in a war zone.

They will not effectively be able to be peacekeepers.

They will be supporters of US American acts of war in that region.

- This war is waged without any regard for the lives of the people of Afghanistan and for human rights.

Prisoners are locked up without charges, and tortured in camps like Guantanamo Bay [in Afghanistan: at Bagram air base, and "the dark prison"].

- The mission in Afghanistan will free US American soldiers for the government to send them to other countries [like to invade Venezuela or Bolivia].

In this way, the Dutch government would support the illegal and counterproductive occupation of Iraq.

A helping hand gesture to George Bush is not worth the lives of Afghan civilians and Dutch soldiers!

We call on everyone to come to The Hague this Thursday, and to help to strengthen these points.

Thursday 2 February / Seven pm / Het Plein / The Hague

Ahmed Pouri (PRIME) [Refugees organization]
Wim Lankamp (NPK)
