Neoliberal-Capitalist societies like USA, Japan, Mexico are boring too
« on: November 27, 2005, 08:55:16 AM »

Another thing that i wanna say is that capitalist-neoliberal (Neoliberalism is a whole philosophy a way of life) are also boring, verty boring and lack passion, emotion and positive energies.  I mean a society where every thing is bought and sold kills passions, and even physical energies to do stuff

I think the tragedy of this is that working class people who spend their whole lives stressed, working hard for a wage that will barely sustain a decent life, never really have the means for fulfilling their potential. My neighbor's car has a bumper sticker that says "I had a life, but my job ate it." and it's a joke but I think this is reality for so many people. It sucks when your life is spent working hard, stressed, and your spare time is spent trying to relax your mind and body with TV, substances, and such. That's not only boring, but tragic.

I know what you mean.. I know so many people who had dreams.. But nobody achieves dreams any more, It just isn't possible.. My grandparents for example are in their 70s and worked at the cannery in town since from the 1970s until last year, and before that they had worked in some other hard laborious jobs, They worked hard their entire lives and recently retired, but they really don't know if their money will last, will they have to go back to work and work until they die?

Neoliberal-Capitalist? Is that the kind of anarchy that's almost everywhere in the world today? I'd say so. Capitalism is very close to get the rule of the world and nobody does anything!

It's only boring if you make it so.

Capitalism is a necessary condition for freedom. Life is 100 times harder in socialist countries like Cuba.

Only in the West will you find such high standards of living.

Friedman your name shows how clueless you really are. Honestly you think Cuba would be better off if it was a capitalist economy? Look at the neighboring countries and you'll find that through the planned economy Cuba has been able to make achievements that would have been impossible. It isn't really fair to compare Cuba to lets say the USA, because Cuba would never reach such heights under capitalism. I'm not to sure what you mean by "freedom". Freedom to get exploited at a job? Freedom to vote which politician will screw you over? Freedom to go and die in a war so the rich can make a handsome profit? Do explain this one to me.

In all actuality most people who live under capitalism live in conditions of near hell. Most "socialist" states weren't socialist at all. China, Soviet Union, Vietnam were all deformed workers states. Even with this deformity the Soviet Union was able to increase production far greater than any other country in history, in such a short span of time. I would suggest you to read something besides Friedman, try reading the "State and Revolution" by Lenin. Which I promise you will completely change your mind on the matter, and also shows how Trotsky was right and the Two-Stage Theory was nothing but a rehash of failed Meneshik policies.

Cuba's a lot better off than Haiti, a capitalist economy of similar size and resource base.  How does Cuba usually fair when there's a hurricane that ravages the rest of the Caribbean?  How does Cuba fair in the rankings by the World Health Organization?  Or is that a communist front organization?  Cuba is not perfect.  Greater democratic participation by the workers in the running of society and the economy is necessary to fully realize and defend the gains of the revolution, but any comparative study of Cuba, either to itself pre-revolution or to economically similar regional states, shows that the revolution had demonstrable gains for the overwhelming majority of the population.
