One point I just thought of today - many US soldiers there now are not thrilled to be doing what they are doing (they are after all a cross section of the general population), but they are doing it as it is their job, and the case has been made that Saddam is a monster, etc. They want to do their jobs and then come home. But Bush and co. have other plans (see http://www.marxist.com/usa/on_vergeofwar_us.html?PHPSESSID=b5c2e099e4311dc9f42e20b3f31e4aa5). These troops will rapidly lose morale if the war goes badly, but even if it goes well, and they are then called on to stay longer, and invade other countries, then dissent could quickly spread. The US is not Sparta!
