Exactly what is the difference between now and the 1950's - this is not the most important point and i would state that the situation from then to now is different but lets for a minute say that it isnt.
In the 1950's or late 40's the Revolutionary Communist Party split into 4 strands one of the reasons for this split was whether or not to orientate towards the labour party or not (to cut a long story short) Grant himself opposed entry into the labour party at that time but only did so because he had very few followers at that time and needed somewhere in which to regroup, that is not the situation now infact. So why using Grants on analysis should we be in the labour party today?
I might be a bit better vanguard if you put down the CWI view of the early years of the RCP and read Grants own account in his History of Trotskyism book on marxist.com. The period in the late 40s , early 50s were very difficult for marxists, entry into the LP would have been wrong but building outside as a seperate party was also proving very difficult. Ted believed in a long patient period of bringing together the small forces of Marxism. It was only in the late 60s early 70s that Teds perspective proved to be correct. It is also interesting that after a long period of Blairism there has been no sign of a significant force outside the LP to confirm the CWI perspective.
