Punk rock has definitely become my favorite type of music. I've been searching extensively through all types of (American) punk and have found anarchist, working-class, and general punk rock - and no socialist punk.

Does anyone know of revolutionary Marxist punk rock? It seems this mode of music has been neglected by the Marxists.

I'd be happy to hear suggestions.

Angelic Upstarts!!!!!!!!!!! They are red through and through. They covered an old italian socialist folk song called Bandiera Rossa. And also have an amazing song called Solidarity.

Brigada Flores Magnon... anarchist though but still great.

There are other red bands just they are not coming to mind at the moment. But there are skinhead crews called RASH (Red and Anarchist Skinheads) and another red and anarchist one which I forget the name but both have a number of bands.

Btw, stay away from American punk. Americans are not very good at it, expect the few exceptions. But look for punk from around the world. They all tend to do it better. Well that is if you dont like the Casualties and the hundreds of American knock off bands.

Oh! And I cant forget Stiff Little Fingers from Ireland. I dont know if they are socialist, but they are very very political and class conscious.

POUM: To stay away from American punk is not something I cannot do. When you tell me to do that, that means I'd be throwing away my favorites: Dead Kennedys, NY Dolls, Minor Threat, US Bombs, Black Flag, Iggy and the Stooges, Duane Peters and the Hunns (also in US Bombs), Circle Jerks, and numerous other bands that have helped mold my poetry and define me as a person.

As D. Boone from the Minutemen (the band, that is) says, "Punk rock changed our lives."

Trust me, I don't dig that hardcore shit that gives punk a bad name (i.e., bands such as the casualties), or any of that pop-punk bs. And also note that I dig some foreign punk (namely British) such as the Clash (of course), Crass, the Oppressed, and the Sex Pistols. In Canada I've heard of the Six String Rebels.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions man (how did you hear of these bands?). I look forward to listening to them.

One more thing: How can you live so close to San Fran and dismiss American punk man?

Well I do indulge in some Agent Orange and strangely enough some DK. Misfits hold a place in my heart and a few other newer punk bands from america too. But most of it is garbage, in my opinion anyway. Such as some of the bands you listed.

When you have listend to punk long enough and go to enough shows you start to pickup new bands. And there is a pretty big scene, a very shitty one I might add but big where I live. Plus, having SoulSeek helps alot too. You can sample bands to see if you like them then get more if you do. At one point I had more than 10gigs of punk on my computer.

Also check out the Redskins and another band full of redskins called Opcio K-95.

Check out some of the Mp3's of Opcio K-95 and Brigada Flores Magnon at the above link. This site also has some great punk music and commie/anarcho merch. Its label with commie and anarcho punk bands.

Ouch man, ouch.

I rely on limewire to get me downloads - those that don't work I go to websites. In my area the scene has died so I'm essentially disconnected from common local shows.

Anyways, Angelic Upstarts and Stiff Little Fingers are both good bands (I need to listen to more of their songs though). I couldn't get the other stuff but thanks for the links (I'll find them there).

Limewire sucks. Use soulseek, it has the biggest variety of punk I have seen. Just go into the Oi chat room and browse people files for bands. Or just look for me, poum_1936. Im rebuilding my music selection since I replaced my computer awhile back.

Also, if you have not become acquainted with The Adicts already, socialist they are not but just damn good fun music. Though they do have a song called "Viva la Revolution" which has a completly socialist message. One my favorite lines is...

"Drink the wine from the rich mans caste, this revolution will not be the last"

Hell yeah man, of course I dig the Adicts. Would you recommend any particular album by them? Joker in the Pack is also a great song. (Are they from California, because I would think they are...).

No no. There a British 80's band who still play, and oddly enough have never changed the line up. All of there albums are great. 5th Overature though, has a poppy 80's feel to it. I hated it at first but it grew on to me.

You should check out a band called intro5pect. I'm not sure if they are Marxist per se, but they are revolutionary and have at least one song that uses the word "bourgeois". They are on A-F records.

If you're looking for good communist/socialist bands, there are 2 that come to my mind.  The International Noise conspiracy and BoySetsFire.  International noise is consistently good while BoySetsFire really only has one good album (After the Eulogy).

So the songs by International Noise Conspiracy titled "Capitalism stole my virginity" and "Communist moon" aren't anti-capitalism/communist?  That would be a shock to me.  And one more thing, I would really like to know what your definition of "Punk Music" is.
