I was writing earlier about how the U.S.A. has two Capitals, the second being Hollywood, and furthermore one could even argue that Hollywood has more of an effect on how people living in the U.S. live then the government, it determines not only style and fashion but answers questions of ethics and in short people look to Hollywood to tell them who the Good guys are and who the Bad guys are.  I think the power of Film has been underestimated by past communist governments.

Say for example a film scene like this were played:  

Now picture a Money grubbing robber bent on stealing from the weak and those unable to defend themselves, pointing his gun and an infirmed and little old woman shoting "Give up your social security money you old BAG!" infuriated by the a Communist constuction worker put's down his hammer picks up pa sturdy pice of lumber perhaps a 2' by 4" and clobbers the wood be robber across the head taking the gun, and remarks "you aren't such a big man without that gun, beating on old woman and such!" and soundly kicks the robber back to where he came.

A Nazi Racist facist address a crowd from a podium preaching Race hatred, genocide, and aryan tyrany over all other races lesser europeans, slavs, french, asians, jews, blacks, declaring all but the purest of Aryans to be unfit to remain alive except as perhaps slaves to Aryans super men, all others to be exterminated.  Now picture unified Communist hearing of this Communist of all races yanking the Hitler wanna be from the podium and stopping the Facist biggot into the pavement.


Or perhaps we could make an animated tale.  The Lambs of the land find themselves terrorized by ravenous lions, being bullied and eaten whenever the lions please.  Completely tired by their mistreatment but these bullies of the land the Lambs endevour to over come the lion UNIONIZE and in the solidarity STAMPEDE the butchorus lions to dead!

Or maybe a tale of a villianus ANTI-Robinhood who goal is to steal from the poor to give to millionares.  The audiance would LOVE to see a film in which such a Capitalist scum has the Furry of the masses unleashed apon him and the revenge of the people exacted apon those who abuse them.


People would enjoy such films but people would learn a VERY important lession from films such as these that lession is simple Communist are the GOOD GUYS!

So, are you suggesting that we create films? There aren't any out there that really say anything about socialism other than it is bad, impossible, or that Marx and Lenin were the devil's spawn, at least in the US that is. We don't have any capital to do such thing. It would be nice, but we would also make ourselves ligitmate capitalist, so what at least, and in a way betray our convictions. I don't argue that we put out no propaganda, but I doubt entering the capitalist sections will help us. I don't know excatly what is to be done, but something. Perhaps we could, with Labor on our side, start a sort of large scale newspaper and television station. I know such things have been attempted, but if we go about it in a democractic way of organizing the station, but still an island of workers' control in a sea of capitalist pilaging won't last long. In short, I don't know the solution.

Doesn't have to be done in the U.S. the danger of people selling out to capitalist and materialistic greed would be a pitfall to be sure, but that doesn't mean our comrads in other lands couldn't do this themselves, the case remains that if all people see is communist cast as genocidal totalitarian madmen then that is the perception that will be the vission of what a comunist is after, this too has to be fought, as the perception of a thing often has more weight about the truth of a thing.  We need to get the people to know the TRUTH.

How does "Marxism and State" and movies go together? More of an art category dont you think.

There are many good labor movies in the US and around the world.

I recently went to Blockbuster and found two intersting documentaries. One was about this guy who was pulling the strings of George W and the other was something on the media. Both looked to be really good. Then there was  Goodbye Lenin and The Motorcycle Diaries. Then in the foriegn section there was a movie called Zapata about the man.

Then I have a movie called Land and Freedom. An excellent movie about the Spanish Civil War and the movie seems to follow along with Orwells account of his time in POUM. And recently in 2000 a new movie about the Paris Commune which is nearly 6 hours long and used ordinary people to be the actors. La Commune

And if I recall correctly, the book Ten Days that Shook the World was made into a movie in the 30's.

I think that getting in to the mainstream is necessary. The first step towards acheiving anything big is to get the majority on our side. We can only do this by infiltrating the typical american lifestyle and exposing our views. A communist movie is an excellent idea. Sometimes you must sell out to get people on your side. Just make sure you arent corrupted. A movie is good but it should be openly anti-capitalist. The typical american won't even notice any thing subliminal. We must get into the mainstream and be open about what we believe.

(maybe make a movie about the poverty a worker faces and how a capitalist lives so well while a worker must struggle to survive. It should be a story, not a documentary though.)
