Ive not long discovered David Rovics and I think he is excelent, particularly his song on the vangaurd of the masses which has a pop at the sects :D Two guys in our anti-war group got in touch with him and asked if they could sell copies of his CD for funds and he agreed, so he sounds like a decent guy

Heres the lyrics to that song..
Worker's World says that they have all the answers And Milosevic is a guy that they admire The ISO says Trotsky is the man And they'll debate it until they all expire The industrial workers will lead the revolution So claims the SWP No, the truth lies among the lumpen That's the RCP
The Sparts say the rest can go to hell And everyone else is a Stalinist The CP will just do their thing And pretend the others don't exist Well I had a realization this morning When I looked into the red and dawning sun I've figured out the truth And I'm forming a party of one
(Chorus) I am the leader of the workers And I'll tell you why the Left is suspect Because there's something you don't understand Only my line is correct 'Cause I am the vanguard of the masses And all of you should just follow me If you doubt my analysis You must be in the petty bourgeoisie
But I am not sectarian It's all the rest who are I work fine in coalitions As long as I'm the shining star So bow down to your master The lastest V.I. Lenin And off to the camps to all of you Who'd say, "not this again"
(Chorus)
And I'll have no music at my protests And none of that goddamn puppetry I'll just have some somber slogans No decadent frivolity My chants will be the right ones Just the ones that should be said And my banners we'll wave proudly Just the proper shade of red
And I will build the party if it kills me I am solely dedicated to the cause If I have to stab you in the back This won't give me pause 'Cause my platform will take us forward And the ends always justify the means And you must step aside behind me Be you Quakers, Jews, anarchists or greens

Check out "Immortal Technique" he is a local underground raper from Harlem. His cd out is called "Revolutionary Volume I." It's hard to come by in the mainstream so if you want a copy let me know I can probably mail one to you.

I forgot a band you should check out. It's a Swedish Hip-Hop group called Loop Troop. They mostly rap in english so all of you should be able to understand it. Their new cd is called "The Struggle Continues". They are of course leftwing, but anyway check it out!

Glad that people here have heard of Gang of Four, KMFDM, The Ruts and NMA... Killing Joke are another excellent socialist band, I recommend you download Love Like Blood. Also Andrew Eldritch of the Sisters of Mercy is an anarcho-syndicalist, which is quite clear when you listen to Vision Thing or Lucretia... The line in Dominion that goes "Mother Russia rain down" is a reference to his desire to see America's bible belt nuked :D If anyone's into industrial noise, Throbbing Gristle (aka "the wreckers of civilisation") and Cabaret Voltaire were strongly anti-establishment, CV to the point where they have pictures of members of Baader-Meinhoff on their album sleeves.
Probably my favourite band, Joy Division, did an extremely good job of expressing post-industrial alienation and disillusionment, and despite being labelled as Nazis by the press (one of their first gigs was a Rock Against Racism event) much of their music is profoundly anti-authority, or at least antisocial... Mansun, as well, have excellent lyrics and occasionally manage to get some leftist remarks in between bitching about how crap their lives are.

I'm a little surprised nobody's mentioned Anti-Flag yet. Solid, if slightly poppish, punk with a strong leftist edge. I should also bring up Atari Teenage Riot-- they broke up in 2001, but they made some really angry, energetic leftist (and vaguely communist) punk techno with a specifically anti-nazi edge. The lyrics weren't terribly deep, but it's not really the kind of music to make you think as much as make you go out and get things done.

Yeah Atari Teenage Riot are great, also some of Alec Empires solo works. But don't pay to see any concerts with him, I used my last money to go see him when he was in Copenhagen and he sucked. From the looks of him I think he had taken to many drugs before the concert.
